I. Reasons for the Failure of an Electric Motor to Start Up
- Phase loss of the power supply (one or two-phase fuses are blown);
- Open circuit in the stator or rotor winding;
- Inter-phase short circuit, grounding or incorrect wiring of the stator winding;
- The setting value of the thermal relay is too small, the knife switch is not properly closed, or the switch mechanism fails and cannot be closed;
- Open circuit in the control circuit, the control fuse is blown, and whether the thermal contacts are switched normally;
- Excessive load or the machinery is jammed;
- The bearing is damaged or jammed;
- The water pump or the fan is rotating in the reverse direction.
II. Solutions for the Failure of an Electric Motor to Start Up
- Check whether the operation and closing fuses are blown and whether the contacts are in good condition;
- Check whether the electrical and thermal protection devices have been activated;
- Check whether the trolley switch is in the proper position;
- Measure whether the insulation resistance is qualified after cutting off the power;
- Conduct a manual barring test to check that the mechanical part is in good condition and there is no jamming phenomenon;
- Check that the outlet gate of the water pump and the outlet damper of the fan should be in the closed position;
- After checking and dealing with the problems, conduct a starting test again, and pay attention to the number of starting attempts;
- If the motor still cannot be started after inspection and handling, promptly notify the maintenance personnel for inspection and handling.
